I am looking to download lame from RareWares.  There are 3.97 beta 2 and 3.98 alpha 3.  Which version should I use?

Thanks!

You should use 3.97b2 its the recomended version never use alphas there for testing.
*

I think you meant: Use 3.97b2, which is the recommended version. Alpha versions there are only for testing.

Switch "there" and "are" places and you got it.
Pretty sad that illiteracy should be a concern in the 21st century, isn't it? :\

Indeed. English is not my native language. Spanish is.
Can you speak spanish?

Yeah, it's a bit unfair to point out things like that. I for one could never speak another language perfectly, let alone competently!

There is no need to switch "there" and "are", AtaqueEG's usage was fine:

"Alpha versions there (i.e. at RareWares) are only for testing."

Yes, though my Spanish is admittedly inferior to your English.
I'm sorry if you misunderstood my comment; it was meant to be a praise.

I see you point. But your example is not 100% correct either. It would be fine if "alpha versions" were preceded by the definite article:
The alpha versions there are only for testing.
At any rate, both your and AtaqueEG's versions are a world apart from the, ahem, original. =)

I was not talking about ppl whose mother tongue is not English. I'm talking about ppl who are illiterate in their own language. Illiteracy often goes hand in hand with deficiency in basic comprehension skills - that's why you keep seeing threads like this one (Which version of LAME to use?/What settings should I use?/What is the best <insert encoder/ripper/tagger/media organizer/player/drive etc.>?) regardless of the sticky threads, FAQs and Search. it's a certain type of mentality, if you wish.

QUOTE(TBO @ Feb 14 2006, 02:55 PM)
On the topic of LAME versions, I read on here recently that someone was using a '3.98a3-3' version of LAME. Will this just be the latest version from Rarewares?
*

This is a pretty tough question. You might even have to actually go to Rarewares to find the answer.

Going along with the [OFFTOPIC] nature of this post:

Why is a post labeled [OFFTOPIC] in the Off-Topic forum?

Because it was a split from another topic, and the title is an explanation for the reason for the split.

"OFFTOPIC" is a little more friendly than "TOS #5"...

In the spirit of off-topic-ness...

Homer's a member of HA? I'm not sure if I am to be thrilled or terrified... biggrin.gif ... even more intrigued to know that he knows what's a pseudonym is...

Off-Off-Topic: I never know Homer had a middle name. What's "J" stands for?

Would you say (a) is grammatical?

(a) Horses raced past the barn fell.

If you said no, think again.

(b) Buses driven past the school stopped.

(b) is grammatical, isn't it.

Well, © is too.

© Horses that were raced past the barn fell.

Notice how © has the same structure as (a). Notice how articles are not mandatory in front of plural nouns.
