Full Version: Foobar is great...

I've been using and tweaking foobar since monday and I'm very impressed by the level of control it grants to the user. It truly is a player to call your own.

However, it painfully lacks a good database search embedded as panel or toolbar. I have my playlists set up neatly, but, more often than not, I have urges to listen to some specific songs, and going all the way to "components / database search" and having the search done in a separate window and out of context... I don't know. It just doesn't work for me. It's distracting and, really, takes up too much of my time and attention.

Well yeah, I guess I am spoiled by iTunes, musikCube and Winamp search, but those are good 'search engines'. The search on winamp is the best, which shows contextual results. I tried, but the 'playlist find' didn't really do it for me.

So, anyway, I think it's still soon for me to make a definite switch, but I'll be watching as foobar2000 developes, and hopefully it won't be long till a database search becomes available wherever we like.

Playlist Find does a "find as you type" thing that's similar to iTunes, but rather than filtering, you hit enter to get the next result. Took me a little getting used to, but it's quite handy.

You could just remap the F3 hotkey to bring up the database search window. (Foobar2000 -> Preferences -> Core -> Keyboard Shortcuts)

I guess it is a matter of habit and taste, but I dislike having a search tool permanently open that I do not need most of the time. Hint: you can open database search (or any other tool) much faster and more conveniently if you assign it a keyboard shortcut.

yeah, you'll like it even more when you see how fast and accurate the foobar's database search is.. smile.gif

and also i suggest you tweak the option from:

preferences>>components>>database search: at the bottom of the screen: misc. settings::::::: i suggest you change this to "edit/add to playlist"
so that on any database search result screen double-clicking a track will just add it to the current playlist.. GREAT!!!!

AND ALSO dont forget to click on the "add" button to enable that hotkey on the page falling down the stairs told you

happy listenning.....
