Did anyone bother to do a bit comparison between the original wav and the wav produced from the decoding of the ALAC file?

Yeah right. Don't you think that any sane developer(s) would have done these tests already ?

Well, in case of Apple, I am not so sure. After all, we are looking at the same company who can't do gapless playback on a lossless format. This speaks a lot about their supposed "attention to the details".

Apple lossless format is gapless. iTunes and iPod aren't gapless, but it's the case for 99,99% of current "MP3" digital players and a lot of software ones. It's very common to NOT have gapless support nowadays... but it's not common to see lossless format not being... lossless.

And I thought it's reverse situation... No wonder Apple isn't too worried about gapless.

This topic is useless. Even the stupidest of companies would not market a lossless format without having made sure it lived up to its name.
