Full Version: newbie question: what kind of file is this

I realize this must be a very ignorant question, but I am lost. When I copy a CD with EAC, I get files that appear with an icon for whatever music player I am using. Are these WAV files? And how do I then use FLAC with it. I've read all the lit, but I can't get it to work. The only thing that appears when I click on FLAC is FLAC frontend.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

if you ripped to wav, then the resulting files ARE wav if you didn't badly mess with EAC's settings. the icon is probably shown because your player registered the file extension (.wav) so it plays it by default. that's nothing bad, as long as you want that. you could easily change that via the player preferences I guess.
so you want to lossless compress your wav files using a lossless codec like FLAC?
just open the frontend, set everything up and drag n drop files. hit encode.

show ALL file extentions and you will never have a problem like this again.

in win98: start, settings, folders and icons

in winXP: control pannel, folder options, view tab
