Shouldn't the volume control be easy to access / On the main foobar2k windows?

As it is now, the EQ is easier to access and find.

Oh, just found it in foobar 0.9 beta.

Wouldn't putting it in the main windows be a good idea?
Florian
It is already available through the main window. Just click on the right corner of the status bar (where the dB value is displayed). If you don't want to click on that, you can even use the scroll wheel to change the volume while your mouse cursor is above that area on the status bar smile.gif

Yeah, I found that, but you can't really find this by yourself like with Winamp... ( I had to search in the forum )

..didn't know about that mouse-trick :-) Thanks Ganymed smile.gif

I don't think it's very intuitive right now, would a seperate volume bar really hurt that much? - oh, how I dare to ask... smile.gif

Clicking on the volume indicator is not intuitive? I think it's far less intuitive to have two sliders in the toolbars which you can easily mix up if you want to change things quickly.
jay21pee
is there a way to make a volume bar in beta 13?

I use fooobar2000 for years and didn't know that you can use the mousewheel on the status bar to change volume - and yes, it's not very intuitive. Do you know any other program that works equivalent? (status bars are usually ment to show the "status" of something, not to be clicked on to change it...)

I would have long figured out the meaning of a second slider toolbar - you could even label it "volume". Much more intuivite if you ask me.

I'n not gonna argue here, won't happen anyway - so purists can be happy happy.gif

Every potential permanent volume bar in default UI solution we considered was annoying in some way (either needs a label/icon or will look the same as seekbar, and then seekbar should have a label/icon too), that's why it hasn't been done yet. Popup volume slider and even scroll wheel behavior are relatively new (introduced in 0.9 betas).

well personally I find this stupid
This is and has to be the only media player that does not have any use full volume control ever made in the history of media.

I only use it in FireFox with foxytunes which actually gives it a volume control. and shoutcast doesn't even play correctly but now i'm off topic

Regarding the volume control: Perhaps you can say that it's inconvenient but why do you think it is not useful the way it is now? You have a slider and alternatively you can use the mouse wheel. It's fully functional and I cannot see what should be not useful there.

Regarding Shoutcast: Works perfectly here.

Well then, you serve yourself a simple solution:
Go away and use Winamp or whatever other player you'd like that has this feature you'd like and quit bugging us.

cheers,

maybe a volume control like in VLC is a good idea (the win2k one without winxp-style)

I like that solution. Interesting, but should be togglable.

Great, I somewhat started a fight... biggrin.gif

Just looked at VLC screenshots, it could be a good idea. There's no "Volume" label, just an icon.

At the same time, clicking the volume stat is a good idea, but you need to know it.
GHammer
Funny, I don't seem to be twiddling the volume constantly.

Set it, leave it.

Where is the volume control? Don't know.

I just made 3 buttons in the buttons toolbar that control volume and mute. I don't like have the volume in my status bar.

foobar volume=max
windows volume=max
Speakers volume=variable

Get the ideia ?

With the right drivers and soundcard, it won't clip.

I'm not going to buy an other one just for that.

I just need to build my USB audio interface... (I have some chips waiting somewhere in the house)

Yeah, that's if you listen with speakers. I listen with headphones, so then i'm screwed.

Why would I? If I don't want clipping I just have to lower the volume to -6dB...

I was talking about that for headphones mostly...

Anyways, there's no foobar2k for Linux so I can't use it anymore...

The new version of columns UI (Version 0.1.3 pre-alpha 17v3, Date Mar 3 2006) now includes a volume toolbar.

There is, and always was. The [+] and [-] keys on you numeric keypad. Oh, and you could even set global shortcuts, so no need to attend the foobar window at all.
Usually i keep foobar running at -6.00 dB. Go ahead, try hitting this value with your mouse or scrollwheel or the new colums-ui toolbar. It's near impossible.
I could live with 0.5 dB steps very well. It's more precise than this mouse fiddling...

As GHammer said: "Set it, leave it." ReplayGain helps, no need to switch volumes often enough to warrant a toolbar messing up my screenspace.

A volume slider as a base of religion is too stupid for me. At one computer I have a volume slider (for columns ui) which is wired to the main windows slider. At another computer (@work) I prefer using the internal dsp and having shortcuts. On my laptop I have no visual volume control, simply all set to max. There is not one truth.
