Has anyone gotten a VIA Envy24 to work under windows vista? It installs a native driver for the chip but no audio works. Get the "divice is already in use" error...

No, unfortunately the driver does not work.

I have tried all kinds of combinations and have finally given up. It is a pity though, 5308 is finally stable enough for me to use on a regular basis as my main OS - but alas, not usable without sound support.

Maybe Via will release a beta driver, although I doubt it.

Maybe the April CTP will have better support which is more likely as it is slated to be the 'consumer oriented beta 2'

UPDATE:

I have found a solution to the problem. You need to open Control Panel, Audio device Setup, right click the Envy24 Controller and select properties. In the Format Tab, change the format to 24bit, 48k

The sound now works for me but the quality it is unfortunately not too good - have been reading that this is an issue with 5308.17.

How do you get it to install in the first place? I get "EnvyAudDrvX64.dll is failed to load." The file doesn't seem to be in the archive.
I'm running Vista x64 obviously.

Are people using the drivers that come with Windows Vista, or the Beta drivers on the VIA website:

(32 bit only)

I use this as my soundcard, and am considering upgrading to Vista as soon as it is released, but want to make sure my audio will keep working properly.

RTM, for my m-audio revolution, there were no drivers out of the box. I got the via beta drivers to install, but couldn't get any sound. tried a few different solutions - including a driver written for a terratec implementation - to no avail.

I use the Onkyo SE-90 PCI soundcard, and installed the beta drivers from VIA's website.

The sound worked perfectly when I set the samplerate to 192 KHz in the soundcard properties. I believe the bit depth was 24-bit (try 32-bit if not).
