I have the same problem with my iAudio M3 player, it displays nothing, just a blank instead of tags. sad.gif
But it supports correctly id3v2.3 and id3v1 tags.

Is it a common problem to all mp3 portable players ?
It's very annoying if this is the case. unsure.gif

It seems that your portable doesn't support ID3v2.4 with UTF-8. As it supports ID3v1, you may have to use this format for displaying the tags on your portable.

You can also try to ask the vendor to support ID3v2.4 which is a standard from 2000 and supersedes ID3v2.3 and ID3v2.2.

Thank you for your answer.
I don't think they will make a new firmware, my player is quite old now. sad.gif

But I would like to know if Creative, samsung, ipods and other media players have the same problem. huh.gif

I also tried to tag a mp3 with mp3tag v2.35 with default options, so I think it has created a tag ID3v2.3 with UTF-8 (I can see the version of tags with The Godfather).
And my audio player read these tags without problems, it even displays characters like йвлаи.
So I imagine the problem is not about UTF-8 encoding but about id3v2.4 tags.

Is there any other software that can write id3v2.4 tags? I would like to test it.
Florian
Mp3tag v2.35 writes ID3v2.3 tags encoded as UTF-16 by default (as long as the ISO-8859-1 option is not enabled).

The latest Development Build of Mp3tag writes ID3v2.4 tags encoded as UTF-8 and IIRC the tagger ID3-TagIt does too (not sure about the character encoding here).

I have tried ID3-Tagit, this soft is very complete for id3v2 options.
I have tested all possible combinations between version of id3v2 and text encoding, and the results are:

Tags ID3v2.3:
----------------
ANSI____________OK, displays ARTIST, TITLE and ALBUM tags
UTF16 with BOM___OK

Tags ID3v2.4:
----------------
ANSI_____________OK
UTF8_____________OK
UTF16 without BOM__Displays ARTIST and TITLE tags but not ALBUM huh.gif
UTF16 with BOM_____Displays ARTIST and TITLE tags but not ALBUM

I believe that foobar2000 writes id3v2.4 tags with UTF8 encoding. unsure.gif
Why tagging with id3-tagit with the same "options" works better with my audio player than foobar2000 ? sad.gif

Did you add ID3v2.4 tags to files without an ID3v2 tag or did you change the options and simply resaved the tags?
ludox
Oops, I removed id3v2 tags with id3tagit but i have forgetten to save the file before changing the options for ID3v2 and writting new tags. My fault.
And my player doesn't support id3v2.4 tags with UTF8 encoding -> my player display nothing instead of tags. sad.gif

But it supports well id3v2.4 tags with ANSI encoding.
ANSI and ISO-8859-1 are the same encoding ?

So an option in foobar2000 for changing encoding of tags would be a good thing for me and other media players owners who have the same problem. rolleyes.gif
An other possibility shoud be to write ID3v1 and APEv2 tags to file (as the default behaviour in foobar0.8.3), then my mp3 player could read IDv1 tags and other ape tags would be readable with foobar2000.

No. ANSI means your current system codepage.

Adding extra options for ID3v2 tagging is not planned.

You can change tag types to ID3v1/APEv2 by choosing 'MP3 tag types' from the context menu and choose the appropriate tag types.

OK, thanks, I will use this solution when copying mp3s to my player.
