I have 2 questions:

The first is, what the difference between the Phillips Sonic Edge 5.1 and the Phillips Seismic Edge 5.1 Surround?

The second, how do we, the HA community, feel about Phillips sound cards?
Wish
Sonic Edge(605) uses a CMedia 8738 chip to power it. It's a HSP chip, which requires the CPU to do all calculations and work.

Seismic Edge 5.1(705) uses the Philips Thunderbird Avenger, the same sound DSP as the one on the more expensive Acoustic Edge(706).

The numbers in brackets are the model number of the cards.

As for your second question, I leave it for Philips card owners to answer since I've never owned or listened to them.

thanks for the answer, for the extra $10 bucks, I'll keep my cpu cycles!

ok, anyone wanna comment on these cards?

I've been using acoustic edge for a little more that a year. It is very stable and packed with a lot of features (S/PDIF, EAX 2.0, QMSS, .....) and it uses less cpu cycles than SB live.

The sound quality is very good for its price range but don't expect "audigy class" sound quality. sad.gif

If I remember it correctly, I used this soundcard listening to mp3 with winamp using MAD plugin in 24 bit resolution, and u can't do that with SB live.

I'll try to contact my friend who works for Philips in the soundcard QA dept., coz i think he is the most qualified person to give comment for this topic.
