Full Version: Audiophile sound card for Wadia

What sound card would you recommend for a Wadia 830 with a digital input? I only care about the spdif quality- bit perfect.

For those who don't know what a Wadia is, they are upsampling home audio cd players that aren't too cheap; I'd like a good card.

I can't decide between these:

Chaintech AV710 is a very affordable card that provides bit-perfect data

E-mu 0404 has inputs and outputs with bit-perfect data, designed for studios

M Audio has a good card

Lynx is another good, but expensive card

Thanks

AV-710 is fine. If you're in a stereo-only and music-only environment. Otherwise (for 5.1, etc), go for the M-Audio.

The AV-710 will do bit perfect multichannel over spdif.
Hi-Fi
Lynx LynxTwo. I'm specifically using the "B" version with bit-perfect out. Expensive? Yes, but geez look at that 830... you can afford it!

But the S/PDIF output will not be any different than that from a great many less expensive cards.

EMU 0404 should do the job fine.

If you are only worried about the digital out, why not get something like the Lynx AES-16?

Should be a good compromise since the digital out is stellar and is less than the Lynx 2b.

Very much at home with the Wadia gear. Over at the audio asylum, there is a poster who is using it with his DCS gear and raves about its output compared with other products he has used, like those from M-audio.

Here is a post from Gordon Rankin of wavelength audio when asked the same question:

He does seem to indicate that there are level of digital outputs, even though they are all "bit perfect"....
