Full Version: Best mp3 format for classical music webshop ?

A client asked me to supply an mp3 version of a recording for use on his webshop. I'm used to making cd-masters, but delivering high-quality mp3 is new to me.
What would be the best choice for a general public (it's classical music) ?
I'm using Mac OS 9 and OSX 10.3.9, so iTunes is an encoding option. I just don't know what encoder is built in. The client asked for VBR, 128-320. Anything else to consider ? People will pay for the files, so I'd like to make them as good as possible.

Thanks.

Great help, thank you very much !

I managed to create the mp3 files and even learned how to use the terminal for the first time :)
The vbr (new) encoded files sound fine but for some reason iTunes doesn't play the last seconds. I think I've read about this problem elsewhere. It is likely that some (paying) customers will be using iTunes and won't be happy with this problem.

Does iTunes have this problem with all types of vbr files ?
Is cbr the only solution to get away with this ?

Thanks

Probably something with the encodings. Try using Max to encode to LAME instead (includes the latest 3.97b2).

It's an iTunes problem:
