Full Version: Multiple outputs playback?

Is there any way to make foobar play different files on each output? I have a 7.1 speaker setup, and am having a party soon... So, what i would like to do is to put 2 speakers in each room, making each room having it's own music...

Is this possible in foobar, or via any other software you know of?

you can go to Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Advanced and then chose the speaker configuration there. if that doesn't work, try updating your sound card drivers. if you don't have a sound card, then you might wanna update Realtek AC '97

It might depend on your sound card. If you use the ASIO output plugin, you can use the "Shift output channels" option. Unfortunately fb2k wont let you run two instances, but you could, for example run fb2k and winamp (not the best solution I know, but if you're just running a playlist). With this setup, you would set fb2k to use the rear channels, and have winamp output sound normally (I don't know if you can use ASIO in two apps simultaneously, but its not necessary because winamp's directsound output would go to the front channels.)

Edit: I'd recommend adding a Resampler to your DSP chain when using ASIO, even if your soundcard supports the sample rate of your music (mine doesn't), if a file of different sample rate happens to be in your playlist playback will cease with a loud error beep ohmy.gif

Couldn't you just make a copy of the foobar2000 program directory and make sure user profiles are disabled (delete the "user_profiles_enabled" file in the fb2k program directory)? I'm not sure how that works with sound outputting at once, but I have used two installations of foobar like that before, both outputting sound using DirectSound (but I didn't really care which speakers the sound went to).

... then, on one of the two FB use the DSP "move stereo to rear channels" and use that output as a Zone 2 port.

I can confirm that this works, you can either copy foobar to a new directory or install a another one in a new directory.
Then, depending on your soundcard, you can move stereo to rear speaker on one of them.
I use this as monitor for headphones in parties.
