RAW AAC means that the audio data is stored without a real container ( .mp4 is the usual container for aac audio).

Winamp, with the Audiocoding ( www.audiocoding.com ) mp4 plugin, and Foobar2000 ( www.foobar2000.com ) can convert to/from raw AAC. I believe there are commandline tools to, but i don't know them right now.

"raw aac" means it is without a header more than "not in a container"

In respect to his question though, there is no difference between .aac and Raw AAC.

I always thought AAC files can contain headers such as ADIF or ADTS.

there is a difference. he's asking the difference between his RAW AAC file and a a normal AAC file, which would contain a header.

yes. that's right.

aac files CAN contain headers (ADTS) or not (RAW) or be in a container (MP4)

until everyone started putting them in an mp4 container they just had a header.

a RAW AAC file would not have a header or be in a container.

so... back to his questions smile.gif

players?
* the OSS FAAD would be able to playback a RAW AAC stream after feeding it the format.
* any player that supports AAC should be able to playback a file with a header or in a MP4 container. (foobar2000 for example)

reproduce?
* the OSS FAAC would be able to create an AAC file with a header, RAW, or in an mp4 container.
* the old PsytelAAC can also. (at ReallyRareWares)
(i'm not sure about the new encoders like nero/itunes)

you can also use FAAD to write a header to those headerless (mostly useless) AAC files...

Thank u so much for ur reply. Now m clear ab't it
But now m having a doubt like why thr is the use of two types of headers like ADIF and ADTS. What makes difference? Is thr any expansion for this?
itv

ADIF = Audio Data Interchange Format, ADTS = Audio Data Transport Stream. ADIF files have the header at the beginning of the file, while ADTS files have headers for each raw data block, thus making it more suitable for streaming.
