Full Version: [0.9RC] Playback gap when un-minimising
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Hosted Forums > foobar2000 > Support - (fb2k)
Andrew B.
I just upgraded from 0.83 which was working fine to 0.9RC. I have one playback error, which is whenever I have minimised FB2K, either to the systray or just normally, when I click on the icon/tab in order to unminimize it, the program window appears correctly but immediately afterwards there is a quarter second pause in the playback.

I am running the Brumal columns interface but I have the same problem when just using the default UI. I am playing FLAC files from a local hard drive on a very high-spec PC (X64 4400, 2GB RAM etc).

Can anyone help with this irritation?

Thanks

Andrew

Try to increase buffer lenght or playback thread priority (if it's not at max already).

Thanks for the response.

Tried that, saved and restarted and it still has the same problem. I don't even have to minimize foobar - if I just put another window in front of it and then click on the tab in the bar across the bottom of the screen, I still get the pause/stutter.

Quite annoying. I may have to roll back to 0.83.

My playback also stutters sometimes. (also when foobar is not in Tray). There is no heavy CPU load.
Could it be the antivirus? (Antivir)

What's your sound card ? did you enable any effect in directsound? Foobar2000 RC uses directsound to mix in hardware.

Mine doesn't stutter except for the momentary pause when I restore the minimized FB2K window.

I'm using an RME soundcard but the output is set to "primary sound driver". I don't think that's the problem. ALso turned off the antivirus (Avast) with no effect.

IIRC there already have been some people posting in this forum because of problems with playback on their rme soundcard. I guess the rme drivers have crappy dsound support so you are probably stuck in using wave out with foobar2000 0.8.3.

I however have no rme-soundcard. it's the onbordsound of my laptop (amilo m3438). the stuttering occurs only occasionally and is very short.

Thanks - that is exactly my problem. Hadn't found it in the search.

I tracked my problem down a bit. I had Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) installed. Every now and then Process Explorer showed me spikes of "Interrupts". After uninstalling NHC most of these spikes are gone. I now have only occasionally these spikes and stutters.

This (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;817472) may have solved my problems.
