And what's up with PSF? Went to kode's website, downloaded foo_psf.zip, it loads, can configure it, but it doesn't play anything. The speakers just emit a sound as if they had just been turned on, and nothing plays.

Maybe you should email him. Its possible bugs cropped up when it was ported.

I can confirm this. It looks like it's playing something, but not really what it should huh.gif
If you disable "Emulate Frequency Response" in the PSF Decoder config, then you can at least get it to work in Converter (but it still doesn't play properly, and it doesn't nearly sound as good as when it's enabled).

I think it must be a problem of the plugin itself.
However, I can't find his email address anywhere so I'm just stuck with foobar 0.8.3 for now.

Anyway, thanks for the great work! The gui really is somewhat easier to understand/use now I think. And I particularly like the new Converter cool.gif

I cannot reproduce the issue. Just to rule out other possibilities, could you post your system specifications?

Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0GHz)
512MB DDR-266 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 4 MX-440SE (64MB VRAM)
Asrock K7VT2 Mainboard

OS: fails on both Windows 2000 SP4 AND XP SP1a

Whatever it may be, it's most likely a bug in foo_psf, it can't have something todo with hardware. And well, I think that only so few people report that problem because actually about noone seems to be playing PSF's sad.gif
neothe0ne
I can confirm foo_psf works on foobar 0.9.

HP Pavilion a1312n (don't laugh...)
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 w/ SP2 (HP claims it's Edition 2005) (Media Center is just like Professional)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ (2.0GHz)
(integrated) 256mb ATI RADEON XPRESS 200
1024mb RAM
(integrated) SoundMAX sound

As foo_psf works on my computer and on kode54's, I don't know what to tell you....

I'm having the same problem. My specs are:

ASUS A7n8x
AMD Athlon Xp 2200
512 MB DDR3200 RAM
E-mu 0404, using analog out
Windows XP Service Pack 2

further details available upon request.

Wow... am I the ONLY one, besides kode54, who can play PSF's?
gasmann
Sorry I forgot to mention I have an Terratec 128iPCI Soundcard (known as ESS-Solo-1 too) which never showed any behavior like this before.
I'm going to redownload foo_psf now and then reinstall foobar2000 0.9 (I will delete the whole folder before) and place foo_psf.dll in components dir. But I can't imagine that it will work then.

EDIT: No it does still not work... sad.gif
Seldaek
I don't have any PSF file nor do I know what is this format but if you can send me one (or maybe I can export one myself if I install foo_psf?) I can try to see if I've problems too.
Seldaek
Ok I just tested thanks to gasmann link, and it plays.
Harsh compatibility or Friendly compatibility both worked, although Harsh didn't stop after 1sec of silence as I set but waited the default 5, but I guess that's why it's called debug anyway.
I got no warning of any kind in the console.
Sound card is a crappy AC97 on-board chip.
Hope that was of some help (though I doubt it, it rarely helps when it works).
gasmann
Well, thanks anyway. I don't get any output from foo_psf in foobar console either.
I think I'll just have to keep foobar 0.8.3 installed then, and play psf's using it.

Another Question: Is PSF Decoder 2.0.5 available for foobar2000 0.8.3? Because I only have 2.0.4 for it. (It may be a bug introduced with 2.0.5 (?))
neothe0ne
So.. does everyone who can't play PSF's in 0.9 have a real sound card? Because the two posters in here who CAN play PSF's both have Realtek 97AC integrated audio (me and Seldaek)
Seldaek
As I understand it kode54 has a Creative X-Fi (I don't remember where but I think I read that earlier today), and he can play PSF.. And if they can read PSFs with other players it's unlikely to come from the soundcard driver or hardware.
ssamadhi97
Seems to be a compiler issue that causes foo_psf to break on AthlonXP cpus. Not to worry, kode54's working on it.
neothe0ne
But I have an Athlon 64 X2...
ssamadhi97
Wait and see.
kode54
The issue should now be resolved.
gasmann
Yes it is indeed biggrin.gif

Thanks so much, it works flawlessly for me now.

Which is not an AthlonXP and therefore it worked smile.gif

Another question regarded to foo_psf: Would it be possible to decode (using Converter) psf2 to 24bit? This way some really quiet files would not sound so noisy. The ps2 does it in 24bit too, doesn't it?
