Hi all,

A newbie question: I just got a M-Audio 410 Firewire interface that I use for high-quality voice recordings. I already had a Chaintech AV-710 soundcard that I use as my output sound device. Now that I bought the M-Audio interface, I wonder if I should also use it as my soundcard, or if I should stick to the AV-710 for audio output and use the M-audio 410 for high-quality input. Which one is better for audio output?

Thanks,
Francisco

Try it and see.

The AK4355 DAC on the firewire has better on-paper specs than the Wolfson on the AV710, but it's really marginal. I would imagine that the firewire offers it's DAC and amplifiers cleaner power (because it's not in a PC case), so it's SNR is likely to be better.

I would recommend a test with RMAA to see which is better.
