Full Version: How do I edit songs

I have what I think is an easy question but I can't seem to find an answer for it. I want to cut off the beginning of a song before I burn it to a CD. The reason is that the song contains about a 45 second intro where the artist is talking before the song actually starts. I'd like to cut off that intro. I don't have the song on a CD; rather, I downloaded the song and it is on my harddrive as an MPC file. Anyway, I'm guessing I simply need to find the appropriate software. Does anyone have suggestions for a program that would do a good job? Obviously, I prefer something that is freeware but I would pay if there is a program that does an outstanding job. Thanks in advance.

you could just decode the MPC to WAV and edit it with a wide variety of programs... Audacity is free and works great

you can use Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audition with this plugin below... but of course, neither of these are freeware

Cool Edit Pro / Adobe Audition MPC Plugin

as far as any freeware programs that you can directly edit MPC files with... i don't know of any at the moment

Thanks Dr. Looks like there may not be much luck (except for Nero?) with editing an MPC file. I'd like to avoid paying for nero. Anyway, what would happen if I were to convert my mpc file to a WAV file? Doesn't foobar allow me to do that? If in fact I can do that with foobar, I'm guessing I would lose some quality but at this point, I'm more interested in cutting off that intro. Anyway, is there any software package that would allow me to edit a wav file? What about an mp3 file? Thanks again.

Any audio editor should do the job once the file is decoded. Audacity is freeware. There are supposed to be decoding plugins for a few different programs, so I've read; Winamp and Nero were mentioned.

You will not lose any quality at all by converting to WAV. WAV stores audio as PCM, which is the same as CD-Audio. Of course it will not be as good as the file the MPC was sourced from, but it will be the exact same quality as the MPC.

I think I'll try Audacity when I get home. Thanks again for the assistance.
