Hi,
PNS and SBR can be used together or SBR is a better replacement of PNS?
Also, Nero encode using SBR?
If yes, enabling PNS will disable SBR or other things?

Cheers,
Matteo

They both complement each other.

PS is useful for bitrates ~48 kbps (AAC) and lower.
SBR starts to make sense at ~80 kbps (AAC) and lower.

P(N)S = Parametric Stereo = A lossy version of 'Joint Stereo'
(See here for more info: http://www.codingtechnologies.com/products/paraSter.htm)

SBR = Spectral Band Replication = "SBR reconstructs the higher frequencies in the decoder based on an analysis of the lower frequencies transmitted in the underlying coder." (See here for more info:: http://www.codingtechnologies.com/products/sbr.htm)

And yes, Nero supports SBR. It's called HE AAC.

LC AAC is more or less the same codec minus the evil SBR-part. happy.gif

PNS (Perceptual Noise Substitution) is something entirely different from PS.

yes, i was referring to "Perceptual Noise Substitution (PNS)".
since Nero has the PNS option to set it, and after reading this
i want to know if enabling PNS enables an option, or if it is a fallback, eg. disable XXX and use PNS instead.

Cheers,
Matteo

It's possible to combine PNS and SBR. In Nero it depends on the current tuning in use, so it may differ between versions what exactly happens.
