Full Version: mpc seeking terribly slow

Hi,

I like the codec quite much and ripped some stuff to mpc. Now I rather like to use ogg vorbis in a certain case. The only reason, why I prefered ogg vorbis over mpc now is because of the terribly slow mpc seeking. It's simply unusable, especially because I control my foobar0.83 via a remote control. The seeking takes way too long. (e.g., a 10 seconds forward jump takes a second or more. I did not exactly measure, but roundabout)

Any solutions on this? I have an fb2k0.83 on W2KSP4 on a Thinkpad 800 MhZ Notebook with sb audigy 2 zs notebook soundcard.

Format limitation, nothing that can be done.

Fb2k used to have some hacks to speed up seeking, but they were found to potentially affect quality.

Wow, you have some serious delays there. On my PC, seeking in MPC is almost instantaneous, with maybe a 1/8 second delay tops. Does the remote control add to the delay as well?

snowgoon is battling the seeking problems at musepack.net, here:

it is not integrated into the main libmpcdec or musepack tools yet

Nice to hear there's some development.
