Hi everybody,

I recently used mp3 gain on a whole bunch of mp3's with album gain and stupidly i wasn't paying attention (I really should know better the amount of times I've used it) and have distortion on many tracks (clipping?).

Undo Gain Changes hasn't changed anything (though i don't suppose it would).

Now here is the Million dollar (and probably stupid) question)

Is there anyway i can rectify the damage or do i have to dump 8gbs into the recycle bin?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Undo gain changes has always worked for me. Are you sure it did not undo them? I guess you are, but how did you verify this? Maybe the verification process was faulty. That is what I am suggesting. cool.gif

Have you tried reapplying the gain changes, targetting a lower level? Or you could use the clipping prevention option.

If it still clips when MP3Gain says there's no clipping, then the original CDs probably sound like that too. In such cases, there's nothing you can do.

But doesn't clipping prevention only work for tracks rather than albums?

/me shrugs.

I don't know much about MP3Gain, but I think it would be worth trying to do analysis and gain correction in album mode.

foobar2000's playback honours the album values so that albums will not clip. You might want to check out foobar2000 0.9. It can alter MP3 files' volumes kind of like MP3Gain can.

edit: You could try manually lowering the target volume in MP3Gain's album mode till none of the songs clip. You could still get manual clipping prevention that way, even with album mode.

Um, wait, did you scan all 8 gigs in album mode at the same time? If so, if/when you're listening to those 8 gigs only, then the volume differences will still remain the same as if MP3Gain hadn't been run.
