Full Version: EAC vs iTunes for database

I use EAC for ripping and it uses freedb for retrieving CD info. Often it comes up short as a particular CD is not in the database, however iTunes usually comes up with the goods. This is what is in the details of EAC:

How can I change it to whatever iTunes uses?

Thanks

iTunes uses the Gracenote CDDB, EAC uses FreeDB. As it's name implies, FreeDB is free, and once upon a time Gracenote was free but this is no longer the case. Simply put, Apple pays Gracenote to include their CDDB service as part of iTunes.

In my experiences using both CDDBs Gracenote is just as suceptible to shoddy CD info as FreeDB.

Perhaps someone knows of a way to have iTunes lookup the album in Gracenote and then somehow port CD info to tag files ripped/encoded in EAC, but this is way beyond my capacities.

Thanks for the reply. I agree about the shodiness, but it seems that the Gracenote db is more comprehensive. I can copy data from iTunes, paste to Excel, thence to the clipboard and thence to to EAC. It's a convoluted method and involves closing EAC before opening iTunes, since the latter doesn't 'see' the CD if EAC has a hold of it. I had simply been hoping that I could use the same db for EAC as for iTunes, but now I know what that is not possible.

The way I do it is a little 'slow', but if you are going through Excel it might be worht mentioning because it is easier than that.

I use Player from http://www.vuplayer.com/player.php. It has an export album data to cdplayer.ini option. Then in EAC I use the get cd innfo from... cdplayer.ini option. The names of the options might be wrong, but I'm on my linux computer so I can't check. The only thing to fill in manually after that are the release date and genre. I hope that helps.
