Full Version: Extract audio from DVD-V

I'm having trouble using DVD Decrypter to extract audio tracks from a DVD-V. I wan't to export LPCM tracks into WAV and then convert to a lossless format. I use Foobar2000 for audio playback and it also supports ac3 and dts through plugins so I can have them in their native format.

I choose 'Enable Stream processing', 'Demux' and select the 2 chanel audio track I want to extract. I can play the VOB files of the ac3 tracks in Media Player Classic but renaming the file type to 'AC3' and trying to play it in foobar2000 with the AC3 plugin installed it resuses to play it, but shows valid info in the properties dialog.

CODE

bitrate = 192
codec = ATSC A/52
channels = 2
samplerate = 48000

The reported length of 21:23 is incorrect thogh, it should be 09:42.

The LPCM track with a .VOB file ending is just noise when played back in MPC and doesnt work at all in foobar2000 even after changin the file ending to WAV.

What am I doing wrong?

Also, is there any program that would let me take stills from the video material?

What format is the LPCM audio? If it is 24-bit audio then you'll need to convert it to a normal 24-bit WAV file. There is a nice tool on rarewares to do just that.
http://rarewares.org/others.html
24-bit LPCM is not supported by most players. I think it is something do with it being RAW audio data or some nonesense. Either way when played it comes out as just noise unless you convert it with that tool. If it's not 24-bit your doing something wrong. If thats the case I recommend extracting the VOB's with DVD Decrypter and using vStrip to properly demux the audio, although that can be a bit of PITA if your unfamiliar with it.

You need to highlight the soundtrack and then click on demux. The demuxed soundtrack should have the '.ac3' extension, not VOB. Then you can load it into foobar and decode it. smile.gif

Could you elaborate?
john33
In IFO mode, Stream Processing - Check Enable Stream Processing, then highlight the audio stream that you wish to extract and check Demux. If you only want the audio, then uncheck the other streams. Then, when you extract, the audio will be demuxed to a separate file with the '.ac3' extension. This will be a correctly structured ac3 file that you can then process through foobar, etc.

I forgott to highlight the audio stream, so when I checked demux it didnt do squat for the audio stream. Thanks alot! biggrin.gif

I recommend Image Grabber by gizliben. It can create single-file collages of screenshots from a variety of video files (.mpg, .m2v, .vob, .avi). The original's interface was entirely in Chinese, so I hacked it a bit and wrote a HLP file for it. See the HLP file for explanation on how to configure it.

Cool. Thanks alot Never_Again!

You are welcome. I just remembered I had disabled JPEG output. For those who may want it, I re-enabled it and replaced the archive at the above URL. The default option remains BMP, out of quality considerations.

I'm sorry for resurrecting an old thread but...

I want to ask you how to convert ac3 (or other demuxed DVD-V audio channel) to PCM standard (16bit, 44Khz, stereo). I don't have foobar because for me it's too hard to handle it. sad.gif
DARcode
Easy right? I'd go AC3Filer (http://ac3filter.net/index.php?name=Sections&req=viewarticle&artid=1) and then either dBpowerAMP Music Converter (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm) or Winamp's Disk Writer plug-in.
Never_Again
DVD2AVI (and its successor, DGIndex) can decode audio tracks to PCM from VOBs, skipping demuxing.
