some of my folders have multiple jpgs and/or gifs for the same album...it seems that foobar will display the smallest file every time....is there a way to have foobar select the largest file instead? or do i just have to go thru each time and remove all other image files that i dont want displayed?

Try to name the biggest file "folder.jpg" (or folder.gif, or folder.png )

the albumart plugin just looks at file name, so unless all the large cover arts fit some naming pattern (like "folder.jpg" as muzgus suggested), there really isn't an alternative.
