I found this on the CDFreaks news page!

Whoa, they are back!

I loved this media. It was beautiful physically (I still remember the looks on my friends faces the first time they saw it back in 1998) and very durable-- those first discs still play.

I hope the new ones are easy to find and not that expensive.

I wonder if they are available in the US and what they cost. I also hope they are still manufactured by Ricoh. Just wishful thinking before heading over to CDFreaks...

Oh yes how I loved to hate that medium. Actually the worst crap i've ever used tried to use, every time I got my hands on them. Maybe burned well, but the data was almost always non-existant just a while after, and then I haven't even flamed the poor surface!

Back then I could get Pioneer media (and sometimes called something else), with a really tough surface, and a blue dye. They always worked perfect, and does that wery well even today! Also they were actually quite expensive laugh.gif But I really wish more media were still made this way today!

Edit: very important mistake!

kodak media is very good quality. i have some of their gold CDRs burned in '99 and so far no problem at all. there were problems reported with later generations (though never reproduced by me) until kodak got out of the optical media business. and now they're back.. speaking of a camera and film company, my local supermarket still sells fujifilm taiyo yuden. price is even lower than before. so if kodak makes a comeback it will have tough competition.
