Full Version: When will FOOBAR support mp4 (ALAC) files?

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I was just wondering when will FOOBAR2000 support (be able to play/convert/encode) mp4 (ALAC).

I love the sound of Foobar2000 on my windows box the best of all players. Winamp cannot compete with Foobar's sound quality due to Foobar not using the windows Kmixer. The problem is, I ripped all my CD's (and some borrowed ones) to mp4 (ALAC) on my intel iMac so that I could use them on my iPod. But it wasn't until after, that I found out that Foobar didn't support mp4.

Furthermore, I thought I could remedy this problem by just converting all my mp4's to FLAC with dbpoweramp with the correct codecs but that wasn't the case. Dbpoweramp keeps on crashing for no apparent reason when trying to do the latter.

Also, when I use MAX (sbooth.org) to convert from mp4 (ALAC) to FLAC, that app also runs into problems by creating silent FLACs.

If Foobar2000 would support mp4 (ALAC) I wouldn't even have any of these problems because I could just play my mp4's in FOOBAR. But instead, I have to use the eternally crappy iTunes to play them.

Any ideas?

You can get a somewhat unstable ALAC decoder for foobar2000 here. If you want to convert to ALAC using foobar2000 you must use the iTunes frontend available at the RareWares AAC page.

Oh my goodness, you are godsend bro!! Thanx a lot!!!! This is definately what I have been looking for. I guess I will also keep my eye out for a stable version as well.

Nah, I just do that on my intel iMac with MAX. Thanx anyway though.

Just a heads up, but bypassing kmixer doesn't gain you much of anything (and you can do it on Winamp anyway), so this really isn't true.

Really? What is all this stuff I keep reading about that? How do I do this in Winamp? I'd like to try it.
