Many broken links I have followed in the search for the Secret Rabbit Resampler Code plug-in.

I understand that distribution of the resampler has been stopped due to some GPL violation (?).

Basically I am interested in the resampler plug-in for fb2k version 0.83 or 0.9 which provides the best sound quality (according to several people the Secret Rabbit resampler does exactly that). Let it be some informal distribution of the secret rabbit plug-in or another better plug-in...

Anyone who can help me on that one?

This is Otachan's SSRC resmapler for 0.9

One of the *possible* benefits of upsampling is that it might eliminate Aliasing Intermodulation Distorsion.

Of all the resamplers available for Foobar I have tried (SSRC, Otachan SSRC, PPHS), only PPHS low-pass filters 100% (the attenuation is >100 dB @ 22.05 kHz). For this reason, I think PPHS is a vastly underrated resampler.

Another benefit of PPHS is low memory and CP usage about a half of SSRC

Due to the GPL, any use of the SRC resampler in fb2k would leave you vulnerable to legal action being taken against you by the author, who has made it very clear that SRC is not to be linked with any non-GPL software.

Even if the act of distribution of a foobar2000 plug-in using SRC may allowed by law, if Mr. de Castro Lopo wishes to interpret your action of using the plugin as creating a derivative work, then using such illegal software may make you a criminal as well.

Since everyone who has been accused of violating the GPL and has been taken to court has chosen to settle (sometimes involving large sums of money), it's uncertain how a court would exactly define what constitues the creation of a derivative work. Whether or not it would be found that merely loading the plugin would be doing so, or the act of compiling the binary against the fb2k SDK, or any other similar action by either a users or developer, it's been made very clear (by the author) that a plugin using SRC is considered illegal software, and I would not want to be the first one to try to defend my actions in court (federal or civil).

I honestly don't care what you think of the license issue -- or the legal issues -- or even the moral issues involved, but it has been made clear by the author that it is impossible to make use of the SRC resampler in foobar2000 legally.

Mr. de Castro Lopo has mentioned in passing that he might be interested in working out some kind of licensing agreement that would allow a plugin using SRC. I'm quite sure that if people here continue to try to make illegal use of his work in ways blatently against his wishes, he likely won't feel to any reason to be so accomodating.

stupid question: does it make sense to use any of these zupsampling tools if you arent running a audigy2?

Thanks for the replies.

I'll try out the different resamplers I can get my hands on and see what I like the best. I don't bother too much about CPU usage as long as my CPU can handle the job of playing back music while doing nothing else.

I understand that we do not want to upset the GPL community in the name of Foobar2000. Hasn't it though been on the agenda to release the SRC for use in Foobar2000 for quite some time by now?

I believe that many soundcards perform a bad job upsampling 44.1KHz (CD standard) to 48KHz, which is a common output sampling frequency for soundcards (my M-Audio USB Audiophile included). That's why you want a good resampling software to do the job instead. Please correct me if I am wrong.
