Full Version: Problem with EAC not naming some MP3 files

I'm a newbie to EAC. I followed the Coaster Factory tutorial and I'm running into an annoying problem. When I Copy Selected Tracks>Compressed I get all of the .wav files converted to MP3, but sometimes a few .wav files (usually 1-3 per CD) don't delete and the corresponding MP3 file is not named properly. All of the MP3 files are fine and when I play them in Jukebox the tags are also fine. I've done about 5 different CD's (several of them have been repeated a few times) and this has happened everytime (not necessarily on the same tracks) except on 1 CD. I could fix it manually by renaming the MP3 files and deleting the .wav files, but I really want to run EAC properly. I've tried both with and without EAC Options>Tools>"On extraction, Start external compressors cued in background" checked but the problem occurred regardless. Any ideas?

Ideas anyone? I'ld greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Hi Ron
I had a similar problem to yours (I think).
When you say "not named properly", do you mean they still have the temporary filenames given by EAC during wav file extraction? Things like "t1)2fgy.wav" ?
If so, I found that this problem was caused SOLELY by overheating.

I had far too many drives in my very small case with completely inadequate cooling.
I had 2xIDE drives, 2xSATA drives plus 2xCD drives.
I found that the SATA drives in particular (120G Seagate7200.7 series in RAID array) seemed to get very hot indeed - far too hot to touch even, and these were the target drive for my ripped music.
I found if I started from a cold PC, I could rip at a maximum three CDs, before overheating caused the weird filenames problem.
If I'd been running the PC for a while first doing other stuff, then I'd only only sometimes be able to rip a single CD before the filenames came out looking weird.

Providing some decent cooling has sorted this problem completely for me.
Actually I tried a couple of things with the existing case, but really, it was only ever completely happy with all the panels off, and extra fans going!
I found that if I removed the 2xSATA drives, then I could rip at least half a dozen CDs in a row, with the panels on before getting incorrect filenames.
So I used it as an excuse to buy a nice big bad@ss case with plenty of room for FANS as well as drives smile.gif
Not to mention a nice new m/b, CPU, RAM, WD raptors, enermax PSU, and did I mention FANS tongue.gif
No more problemo. Except for the noise that is...
Cheers,
tU
