Hey guys! I have just started my endeavour in archiving my CDs. I extracted my CD's tracks as WAVs with EAC, and then used the WAVs to create FLACs with ReplayGain. Now, I can see those values fine in Foobar. However, my question is that when I use Lame to convert the WAVs (lame -b 192 -m s -h) to MP3s, it gives the ReplayGain value at the end of the window. However, I can't see these values in Foobar. Why is this? Did I lose those ReplayGain values? Thanks for any and all help!

I have to admit I'm kinda confused on your process of going from CD>FLAC>mp3. The easiest way to do it since you've already got FLAC and replaygain data is to use the converter in Foobar. Foobar knows about the replaygin data and can use it when writing the output, in this case mp3.

Hmm... maybe lame writes these in a different field or something?

Have you checked your tagging options in foobar to make sure that they are the same as what you've got in your MP3s?

I guess if you're using the same tags (like, ID3v2, and not APE or something) in both applications, and you still can't see your RG values, it's trivial to rescan the values, if you can let your computer do it overnight or whatever.

In regards to clintb's message, when you use the foobar diskwriter, note that it does not pass the RG values to the tags of the new files, but you can actually have it output the files at the replaygained values if you check the option to do so.

I haven't found a way to have foobar write the files with the replaygain info in them already.

LAME write Track Gain value to LAME tag field.
This information is completely different from IDv2 or APEv2 written by foobar2k/MP3Gain RG scan.

AFAIK this winamp plugin is the only one that support LAME tag RG.

If you don't need it, just add "--noreplaygain" to encoding option for a bit fast encoding.

P.S.
I recommend Hydrogenaudio's recommended LAME settings.

Thanks, haregoo - just what I needed to know. Thanks also for pointing out the recommended LAME settings - I'm going to use those from now on! biggrin.gif

Hello!

Is there a way to move the RG information from the LAME tag to the IDv2 tag, or whatever tag foobar reads when searching for RG info? Scanning all my music would take much time, and doing so would be stupid since the info already exists in the files.

Thanks in advance.

I know this doesn't fully answer your question, but you could use LAME Tag Reader to read the RG values from the LAME tag. Could anyone else offer better advice?
