I remember when I was noobish not a long time ago, I was desperately looking for a site with all foobar components regrouped with simple descriptions. But finding the right plugin or knowing what was available was unfortunately not that simple...

Now that foobar is taking a brand new start with 0.9, I think it would be awesome to keep a database of every plugins with descrpitions and screenshots. I think that wiki is a good platform to do that.

Anyway, my intentions with this thread is to take the pulse of all of you guys, to take suggestions on any improvements, complains, way to makes ->this<- more convenient to ultimately seduce more and more new audio freaks to that wonderful player that is Foobar cool.gif

Thanks
lextune
EDIT:Nevermind wacko.gif

......but by the way, foobar rules!

No one has an idea? Don't you think it has the potential to become a powerful tool to demystify foobar components?

I personally prefer to create my own website: http://eolindel.free.fr/foobar0.9/accueil.shtml
as I dont find the wiki manageable.

But anyway, Anyone who wants to port what I already did to the wiki could do with all my approbation. If someone needs a .zip archive with my whole website (images, Html pages), just ask.

(I intend to do something like that on my website but before I have a lot of other things to do)

But for sure your idea would help to expand the foobar community. And to make my website, I really appreciate your work wink.gif.

SURE! it'd be great!!! there are just so .ucking many sites that has plug-ins. you have to be kind of a genius to find what you're looking for.... (or, am i too dumb??? biggrin.gif)

your idea is great!

and bye the way, i had found a web page that had all the previous versions of foobar, does anyone know the address please?? because i will contribute them to oldversion.com.... it's a shame foobar's not on that page sad.gif neither on download.com sad.gif

i guess the name "foobar" makes people think its one of those .uckin toolbar malware.... at least my friends thought so in the beginning.... the name could be sexier; maybe FooDoo, i dont know...............

This thread may be of interest, including the other threads that I link to in my first post.

It seems that many of us like this idea in one guise or another, it's just a case of getting developers on board, and getting it organised.

No. Computer literate people know that foo and bar are example variables used in programming books and pseudo code.

For example
foreach($foo as $bar)
{
dostuff($bar);
}

I love the idea, and I really appreciate the work members have done to bring some sanity to the wild world of 0.9 3rd party components (thanks Bachi-Bouzouk, Seldaek, et al.). As it stands the wiki's pretty well organized into plugin categories (Columns UI, DSP, Input, etc.) - I think it might be a good idea have separate sub-pages for each category within which we could create a standard format data-sheet for all 0.9 components. Thinking that a lot of this could (should) initially be entered in the wiki by the developer (or alternately, ported over from the discussion threads and/or Bachi-Bouzouk's page by persons who can edit the wiki). Of the top of my head (not much there laugh.gif ) I thought of the following layout:

ABC FB2K 0.9 Component (xyz.dll)

1. brief description (what it does, link to screenshot if applicable)
2. special requirements (Foobar 0.9.X, Columns UI 0.1.XX, etc.)
3. developer (link to HA member profile page?)
4. latest version / date (incl. download/webpage link)
5. link(s) to HA discussion threads

and maybe:

6. known issues
7. component/developer todo's
8. component/developer nodo's

Suggestions / constructive criticisms on the above are welcome. Again, I really appreciate the work members have done within threads and on their personal webpages to keep track of 0.9 components, though I agree with the OP that this sort of thing is tailor-made for a wiki.

I suggest that you bother to read the thread and the others that I link to. All have one premise in common: a central repository for foobar plugins.
