Is it possible to use Loggersoft's Ahead AAC Encoder Frontend (I found the version 0.79.065 - is there a newer one? where?) as a commandline encoder in foobar2000? I've tried to use it, but I always get an error like this:

CODE

INFO (foo_clienc) : CLI encoder: C:\MulMed Files\Audio\AAC\aacenc32.exe
INFO (foo_clienc) : Destination file: file://C:\Documents and Settings\Wintershade\Desktop\infile.aac
INFO (foo_clienc) : Source file: file://C:\Documents and Settings\Wintershade\Desktop\infile.wav
INFO (foo_clienc) : 44100Hz 32bps 2ch
ERROR (foo_clienc) : Encoding failed

Can someone tell me how to set the switches in foobar2000 (and whether this is possible at all, since this isn't a real encoder)?
If this is not possible, can someone please reccommend me a decent command-line AAC encoder which I can use in foobar2000 (and how to set it up)?

Many thanks.

Why not use the new free and legal Nero command line encoder?
Wintershade
Is it safe to use that one? And how to set the switches in foobar2000 for it?
Thanks

edit: I can't see how to wrap the data in aac container rather than mp4. Is mp4 container a problem for hardware players, e.g. iPods (older or newer)?
I'd still be happy if someone told me how to set Loggersoft's frontend.

This thread has recommended settings for foobar and EAC.

As far as I understood it AAC is not a container. I don't think that you can encode to AAC, but I don't understand these things fully. You can specify the extension as MP4, or M4A for iPods.

It is a real encoder. I'm not sure what you mean by that phrase, but it does not need Nero installed or any additional DLLs. It's as real as they come.

The way I see it, you now have neroAacEnc.exe or iTunesEncode.exe as your main options.

As far as I know, iPods don't even play AAC if it's not in the MP4 container.

I think Apple requires you rename the files to M4A, though.

Essentially nothing will play .aac, so you have to use mp4/m4a. I'm fairly certain the Ipod will work with .mp4 files. I used them for a while on my old 3G.

I was referring to the Loggersoft, which won't work without Nero's DLLs in its directory (thank God it doesn't require Nero installed, since I never use it).

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Now I understand a little bit more smile.gif

edit: are there any advanced switches, such as lowpass and TNS?
thanks

Yes, I guessed as much. It is good news that neroAacEnc does not rely on a Nero install. Most generous. smile.gif

As far as I understand it their philosophy is to let the encoder make decisions, and keep command line switches to a minimum. I cannot answer your question directly, as I don't really understand the terms so such mentions go in one ear and out the other. You will have to trawl the beast that is Nero Releases FREE Reference Quality MPEG-4 Audio Encoder, or hope someone more knowledgeable sees this.

There aren't.
(which already lead to a heated discussion that went nowhere and consequentally got split into the recycle bin)

Ok, I just read that thread. Point well taken.
Thanks everyone.
