Hi guys/gals,

After spending the past hour trying to find a certain file I copied to a CD somewhere (and not yet finding it crying.gif ) I realize that a good CD Cataloger software is sorely needed.

What FREE CD Cataloger do you use/recommend? Inputs greatly appreciated.

I don't use any for data CD's except the built-in Windows dir /s command and output it to a text file that I save onto the disc because it isn't proprietary and can be read without any third-party program.

This is what I do (example):
1. Start a Command Prompt, and type in:
dir /s "D:\Some Directory Name" > "D:\Some Directory Name\FileList.txt"
2. Remember to burn FileList.txt to the CD with the backups.

For audio formats; mp3, ogg, wavpack, etc., I use MPEG Audio Collection, along with dir /s.

Synthetic Soul
backup cataloguing software

A good disk cataloging software, Preferably a freeware/opensource alt.

As stated in the above threads I have previously used Offline CD Browser. It doesn't look like it's been touched since 2002; but if it works, who needs updates?

Great idea! Why didn't I think of that before? With 4NT that I have, I can customize it any way I want!

*rushes to do dir /s*

Edit: I realize I have JDirPrint, a freeware filelist maker (not Java based despite its name)... will use that instead.

Anyways, thanks for the inputs! biggrin.gif

Yeah, I started using it because I was tired of trying to remember what I had on some older downloaded software CD-R's, I just used dir /s on those CD-R's and saved the filelist in My Documents.

It's pretty handy also if looking for some old downloaded mp3 I haven't listened to in years without popping in 100+ CD-R's/DVD+R's just to find it, which makes me remember I need to buy a gargantuan HDD to store all of my music ripped and downloaded.
