Full Version: Linux compiles of VorbisGain and AacGain on RW?
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Hydrogenaudio Forum > General Audio

Miguel Angel Alvarez has his compiles of these on his site:

http://users.servicios.retecal.es/maacruz/

but I think it would be nice if we put it were people usually go for these kinds of things, Rarewares.

EDIT: Doesn't look like I can edit the title.... That's "VorbisGain". hehe, oops.

So far no. You'd have to ask john33 himself. He's the webmaster, official compiler, owner, etc. of rarewares. PM or e-mail him if he misses this thread.

Linux is very much distribution centric, because the way binaries work on windows doesn't work on linux. What you end up is are distro specific (or own) compiles. The only linux stuff that seems to be "on" rarewares is debian stuff and some generic compiles. But what you actually want is something that is managed by whatever package manager you use(so you don't end up with that loosing space like you do in windows, until there is no more), so you're better off making your own packages (and maybe submit them to your distro) or ask in whatever way is usual for packages.

I'm talking about the universal binaries, which is all you need for most audio tools.

I doubt a true universal binary is possible, but what you probably is static compiles. Still it would be a subpar solution and a simple ./configure && make && make install would do in most cases, any big app (which would take a while to compile and uses many libraries probably) should be dynamicly linked to libraries and the like for obvious(=not to waste hard drive space and memory at runtime). But for small apps that would not be an issue, but why not compile yourself, almost every distribution has the needed compile tools?

Errm, actually no, he's not the the webmaster or the owner!! wink.gif Roberto is both of those. smile.gif

If you want linux stuff to be added, you would probably be best in contacting xmixahlx who looks after the Debian stuff, or possibly Roberto, himself. I am pretty much a linux virgin and unlikely to be of much use to you at all!! laugh.gif

Oops, sorry, my bad. wink.gif
xmixahlx
the site you linked to has aacgain binaries, etc.
http://users.servicios.retecal.es/maacruz/...-1.5-static.tgz

and vorbisgain is in debian proper - also, quantumknot has already compiled a linux binary:
http://www.rarewares.org/quantumknot/vorbisgain.gz

when i repackage (already behind, btw) i can add aacgain to RW/Debian.

xmixahlx
aacgain 1.5 has been added to RareWares/Debian

it links dynamically to libfaad and libmp4v2 (from Marillat's Rep) rather than statically.
