Full Version: How to make a switch box?

I've tried some usenet groups in the past without little success. I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

I have 4 sets of output for my computer. 1) cheapo multimedia speakers, 2) hi-fi speakers going through the tuner as the amp, 3) active studio monitors and 4) headphones.

Since I do some music production I like to hear the song I'm mixing on various sources.

Basically what I want to do is make a custom speaker switch box. Ideally it would not require power and have all 1/8" jack outputs and a single 1/8" jack input.

Currently I have a radio shack selector but the problem is that it takes two pair of regular wire per output and input. I have made some 1/8" to bare wire adapters but this is less than ideal. For some reason this introduces some hum and even some balance problems with the particular switch box I have.

I think if I designed my own from scratch it would be much cleaner sounding and just be a cool project to work on.

Does anyone know of any places on the net with plans for such a thing? Maybe some parts stores I could look at for switches and stuff? Anything to help me progress would be appreciated.

Ideally it would not require power and ...

well so you need a monster passive switch then.

Me: "Do you have any 4 position, double pole, single throw, break before make rotary switches?"

Radio Shack Guy: "uh...."
