If I've tagged stuff with MP3Tag, it thinks everything has a ÿ at the start of it..

See screenshot...
RioMusic Manager thing:

Mp3Tag:

As usual, a mate of mine who downloads all his stuff has no trouble, the 2 cd's he ripped himself he had the same trouble, so just downloaded them. Typical.

I had the same problem with my Karma. I seem to recall that I wiped all the tags, and rewrote them just with ID3 1 tags.

It seems to be a problem with unicode ID3v2 tags, please try the instrunctions from

I solved this issue patching RMM for the unicode issue. Browse the riovolution forums (if they are still online) for a link to the patched install of RMM (I think it is based in Japan or something...). Version is 2.92 or something...

Writing ISO-8859-1 tags also fixes the issue (did I get the number right? Whatever occidental encoding is..)

@Shade[ST]
yes, writing ISO tags solves the issue. My problem is that I use foobar for my tagging needs and vorbis as the encoder. Foobar does not have an option to write iso tags in vorbis files that I am aware of. Maybe I'm missing something...

Brilliant.

So I have to spend 60,0000 hours retagging my music again? How utterly macabre. In case you were wondering, before, my music wasn't tagged, it was in a folder, whose name told me all I need to know, and was either played off the harddrive or the rather incredibly underated iMP-250.

Shockingly POOO. There are different types of tags. Brilliant. Talk about an incentive to download.

Edit: Pretty drunk, but I dont think I'll edit it in the morning

Sounds drunk.

Use foobar2000, to figure out the tags by path. Then, use mp3tag to change the tag format to ISO-8859-1.

Within 1 automated hour, everything will be complete.

Oh, and watch your language, there are some young people here, I'm sure.

foobar2000 produces compliant files from the get go. My Karma has never had any problems with my MP3 files (tagged with ID3v1.1 and APEv2). And I use RMM 2.61 (I never felt I should upgrade).

So there you go.

Don't feel bad about posting drunk, I have done so many times. But no bad language.

I have the patched RMM and I can host it if you like....
I don't know if current license allows this, but I am sure you won't tell anyone.... I don't know if this is against the board rules either. Let me know if it is...
AtaqueEG
I wouldn't think it would be against the forum rules, since it is a free software that really has no use but to load music files into Rio players (which have gone out of business anyway).

But the administrators have the last word.

Latest version of Rio Music Manager is 2.96 and it is said to solve this problem.

I liked MY Karma for the 98 days it all worked blink.gif AND even though I had the same "y" character problems your experiencing, the songs still sounded fantastic and the interface was fairly user friendly. After the little joystick broke and customer service informed me I was eight days out of warrenty and theyd fix the bugger for $150(if I remember correctly?) I told them where that joystick ought to go and purchased a Nano!

Cheers for the reply's guys, will get busy with this at some point...
