Hello,

Sorry if my newbie question has been asked before. I have installed EAC and I think I set it up more or less correctly based on the wiki tutorials. I also used the wiki tutorial to set up LAME.

I just tried to rip one of my CD's into mp3 format, all went fine and the mp3's are of great quality, the only problem is the very high bitrate, they are all between 400 and 500kbps.

Why are they so high? Which part of the set up did I not do correctly? I would like them to be around 190kbps.

Thanks in advance.

it looks like your program (player) is not displaying the bitrate correcty. Such high bitrates are only possible with "freeformat" which I'm sure you don't have.

hmm you are right, I just opened some of the mp3's in Winamp and checked the File Info, bitrate was around 190kbps.

Yet in Win XP when I point at an mp3 and wait for the info box to appear, it says 450kbps. It seems Windows can't read the info for some reason?

Try downloading dbpoweramp you can use its pop up info box to view the correct bitrate and also a lot more information about your mp3's. WMP is crap at reading the correct bitrate try foobar2000 or winamp.

Windows' media indexer can't read VBR tags properly.
