Full Version: Replaygain in Winamp3

As I have a mixture of mp3's & ogg's I figured I should use the replaygain in winamp3 for scanning and playing my files.
I was going along fine, scanning albums before playing and the info would remain for when I next played those files.
I had to uninstall winamp and upon reinstalling I was back to square one in terms of replaygain info.
I'm a little confused now as to what to do as I figured using replaygain in winamp would be basically the same as if I were to do it manually, atm it appears not. I admit I don't know that much about the various gain progs but I thought the gain info was being added to the files in some manner.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe I haven't made myself clear, I'm using peter's replaygain plugin for winamp3.
Does anyone use it?
Does anyone know where the gain info is stored?
Does anyone know the difference between using this plugin and using mp3gain or vorbisgain?
If I use mp3gain & vorbisgain on my files do I need this plugin?
I can't seem to find any info here on this plugin and I don't know how much the info I've read on mp3gain, vorbisgain etc. applies to it. unsure.gif
I would appreciate any help.

I don't know how Peter's Replaygain PlugIn^C^C^Component for Winamp3 works, but while mp3gain modifies the mp3 sream directly (works with all decoders), vorbisgain and replaygain (MPC) store the information in the file header (MPC) or in the Tags (Vorbisgain), so Decoder support is needed.

I thought I had read people referring to vorbisgain as replaygain so I think that's why I was a bit confused about it. I had some idea that it was like a universal tool.
I'll probably continue to use Peter's plugin for now but I sure would like to know where the info is stored so I could possibly back it up. Maybe it gets stored somewhere inside winamp3.
Thanks for the info dev0 smile.gif

using the built in replaygain in wa3 is definately the way to go, to back up all the data just make a copy of the db folder in the winamp3 folder (\winamp3\db) (contains loads of metadata*** files), that'll backup all of the medialibrary as well.

about vorbisgain, if you vorbisgain you oggs the wa3 replaygain plugin will automatically read the tags, you don't need to rescan them in wa3.

ps. in the newer builds (well 491 at least) the db folder has been moved to \Winamp3\Wacs\data\db

By the way, which MPC plugin do you guys recommend for WinAMP3 ?
The one I have doesn't support Replaygain nor clipping prevention...

Thanks

The one you have supports replaygain and clipping prevention by sending required data to replaygain component. Just install Peter's WA3plugz package and configure replaygain component to use your preferred settings.

For Vorbis files gain settings are stored in the tags of the files.
