Full Version: Installing 2 foobars
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Hosted Forums > foobar2000 > General - (fb2k)
Great Jay
Because my knowledge of setting up foobar is not that high and I will not get ready with my "own" version very soon, I would prefer installing two versions of foobar... one that's always under construction and one that will hopefully work all the time.

Is this possible or will it cause problems? Will I have to do some special settings for this?

thx

I don't think it will cause any problems, but keep "per-user settings" turned off.

I have both 0.9.2 (I think) and 0.8.3 on my computer, and both work fine. I planned on migrating to 0.9, and using 0.8.3 to keep my occupied with music, but to much is missing in 0.9 (plugin wise) for me to make use of it.

Simple answer, yes you can have 2 versions smile.gif.

I have one version of 0.8.3, 3 of 0.9.1 and one of 0.9.2 But like it has been said before, I don't use "enable per user setting" (when you are installing foobar)

Yes, that will work.

I used to have both 0.8 and 0.9 installed at the same time, both with per-user settings enabled. I just used another user account to run one of them wink.gif

Why this way? At least I was sure that they won't overwrite each other's config files, and I could easily drop 0.8 later and have per-user settings in 0.9. (yes, I guess there is a do switch between global and per-user settings, but I was too lazy to search)

Only drawback: you cannot drag and drop files to foobar window running as different user.

Can you do registry-free installs?
