Hi, I'm a novice using EAC with LAME for the first time. I have tried to save two tracks from a CD to my harddrive in MP3 format but they were converted to WAV files instead.

After ripping the tracks I get four files saved in my target directory: A Winamp playlist file, the first track saved as a WAV file with the name Htmp1!542, the second track saved as a WAV file with its correct name, and a text document containing the following information:

What am I doing wrong? Your help would be most appreciated.

You must use LAME.EXE, not EAC.EXE

That should point to your Lame.exe

Oh, thanks guys. I'm still not out of the woods though. A search shows that I don't actually have any lame.exe file on my computer! I do have C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame3.97b2.zip. Did I download the wrong lame file?

OK, I'm a bit thick. I have unzipped lame3.97b2.zip but it doesn't contain a lame.exe file.

The problem is that Windows by default hides the extensions. The lame.exe is showed as "lame"

I'm still not there. I've entered both C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame and C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame.exe in the program used for compression box, but both times got the "Wrong path or program!" error message.

As well as C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame3.97b2.zip\lame and C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame3.97b2.zip\lame.exe

OK. Open up My Computer. Then click on "Tools" and then click on "Folder Options." Then click on the "View" tab. Scroll down until you see the option of "Hide extensions for known file types." Make sure that the box next to this is unchecked. Then click OK. Now, go to the directory where you have the lame3.97b2.zip file. Open up the zip file. Locate the lame.exe file. Right-click on the lame.exe file then left-click on "Copy." Make sure that you leave the folder open that has all the zipped files in them (this is the zipped folder that has the lame.exe file in it). Then, open up My Computer, go to the Program File directory, then open up the directory where you have EAC installed (probably installed in the folder called Exact Audio Copy). Once the EAC directory is opened, left-click on some empy space under a icon and right-click on "Paste." Now the lame.exe file is in the C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame.exe directory.

You can then open up EAC and change your directory command to that.

Could I beg your indulgences a little further with my naivety though?

In addition to the mp3 track which I have now been able to successfully rip to the music directory in my computer, EAC has also placed a log file and a m3u file in that directory. I'm assuming I can just delete the log file. However, am I right to believe I need to drag and drop the m3u file into my DAP to run playlists?
