I just downloaded it myself. Thanks for the notice. Now to see if those peski ASPI drivers are acting up again. biggrin.gif

I noticed in this beta version that the default setting for mp3 encoding is VBR-New (under 'Method') and VBR 2 (under 'Quality'). Now, these also seem to be the default settings for foobar2000.

What confuses me is that the maximum bitrate under CDex's settings is 224kbps whereas foobar2000 often produces rips above this threshold.

Is it just a matter of increasing CDex's max setting to 320kbps or should I leave as is and still enjoy quality rips as can be found with foobar2000?

Is anybody else having a program getting Cdex to run? I am on ME / 2000. I have the proper Adaptec ASPI 32 layers installed on my machine, but the program keeps terminating with Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error? I can't ever get this damn thing to run. It's quite irratating. blink.gif

The Seeker> There is definately something wrong. You shouldn't use any limits unless you have to. If you're targetting average bitrate ~200 kbps (-V2), then giving an upper limit 224 kbps is a very bad idea IMHO. And there is yet another problem. I tried to disable the limits (set 32 -320 kbps) and played with VBR setting. I always got 132 kbps MP3. So it seems to me, that the VBR setting doesen't work.

Thanks vlada. I think I'll continue to use foobar2000 until these things are sorted out.

I don't use WinMe which you'd of course have to use Adaptec's ASPI layer with, however with Win2k why can't use use the ASPI layer which CDex refers to as Native NT SCSI Library?

I don't know if the visual C++ errors are related to MS VB Runtime files, or not however here's a link to download them just in case, and btw installing them wouldn't hurt anything, just remember to reboot if you do install them.

Thanks for the link. I am still trying to figure it out. I installed the ASPI 4.60 drivers, because I read complaints by other folks that adaptecs new layer wouldn't work with a lot of common ripping applications like Cdex, EAC, etc. It could be the VB Runtime though. They are both unrelated, but cause enough problems to make somebody want to scream after 3 minutes. I am tired of Windows period, but I don't have the motivation right now to install a Linux kernel on here. I have only so much patience.
