Have a look at this fantastic result:

Isn't it great? Verbatim LightScribe media was used.

Maybe your drive is fried ...
Sebastian Mares
Hmm... Would be the second Plextor PX-712A that goes kaputt. The one I am using now is a RMA unit.

Quick Edit: Just burning to a Sony (made in China or Taiwan) CD-R at 8x. Wondering how the C1/C2/CU scan will look like.
Sebastian Mares
Seems the drive didn' like the MCC media:

Sony looks much better.
JeanLuc
still too much C2 errors ...
Fandango
Lightscribe media you say? Hm, maybe you used the wrong side? biggrin.gif
Sebastian Mares
Going to buy some decent Plextor media from K&M Shop today and s*it on LightScribe. biggrin.gif
JeanLuc
Maybe you stumbled across some MCC media that was produced under licence by CMC or MBI ... is it Made In Taiwan or Made In India?
Firon
Your thread title is misleading! laugh.gif

What media ID specifically was it? MCC 004 is supposed to be very good media.

Told you from the start that Lightscribe is bad, but you had to reach the same result first (for a different reason)... tongue.gif
JeanLuc
I achieved some successful burns on Verbatim LS CDR media ...

BTW ... Feurio! has printable Plextor CDR media now ... http://www.feurio.com/shop/Images/artikel/3478_p1.jpg

Unfortunately, I think JeanLuc is right thinking that the unit might be defective:

IPB Image

This was a Plextor (TY) CD-R.

I am going to ask a friend to give me one or two CD-Rs made by Ritek to test with. One more thing - I bought my first PX-712A about two years ago and had it replaced after a year because it was no longer able to read CDs. How long do I have time to give this new unit back - only one year or two again?
Sebastian Mares
Hmm... Seems that 48x burns are OK:

IPB Image

The average C1 is 0.4 which is pretty low.

Edit 1: BTW, maybe the title should've read '"Excellent"...' (in quotation marks).

Edit 2: And here are the results for the LightScribe media from Verbatim (the title of the thread is suitable now tongue.gif):

IPB Image

Although a bit higher C1 average (1.2), still a good quality.

Conclusion: Low speeds don't always mean better quality.

Edit 3: Just noticed that for all images except the last one, the black line denoting the end of the disc is missing. No idea why Alt+Print didn't capture it.

Just received my second replacement unit - this time Plextor sent me a PX-755A to replace my second defective PX-712A!

That was nice of Plextor. Hopefully it works out for you!
Sebastian Mares
Yes, very nice. And this time everything works, too. smile.gif
