Full Version: ReplayGain has absolutely no effect?

Hi all.

I was the unfortunate victim of WinAMP for many, many years. Recently, to celebrate the millionith random crash, I decided to hose it and install foobar, for the benefit of all involved.

However, one small lingering trouble remains.

Due to a limited space setup, I use a pair of headphones instead of speakers for my audio. I don't like the restricted feeling that comes from wearing them 24/7, so I usually leave them on the floor, and turn the volume way up. This provides me with nice, room filling sound for non-intensive music consumption.

However, on most tracks, the volume does tend to be a little bit low. In WinAMP, I compensated by boosting the preamp a little bit.

In foobar, however, no matter what I put for ReplayGain, it has no effect. Yes, I do adjust both the "with RG info" and "without RG info" sliders, and I have tried both of the source mode settings (track / album). Even with the headphones on my head, I detect absolutely no difference between -12dB and +12dB.

So far the only solution I could impose was to move all the EQ sliders to the top. However, this solution is less than ideal - I'd rather use EQ for EQ, and a ReplayGain / preamp for overall volume boosting.

Am I missing something really obvious, or is the ReplayGain support in foobar 0.9 busted / non-functioning?

Thanks in advance to all who can help this imbecile newb out tongue.gif

Changes in the ReplayGain and preamp settings only take effect after you restart playback. You may also want to disable the "prevent clipping according to peak" option.

you must set source mode "album" or "track", and Processing "apply gain" in the playback properties..
