I'm looking to create a foobar2000 module to allow xFire www.xfire.com to control foobar2000.
So when i'm using xFire, I can type in the chat window something like.

foo play
foo pause
foo next
foo stop
foo previous

if you can make a plugin for Xfire, then yes. otherwise, you might want to use Global Hotkeys if you want to control foobar2000 externally.

Apps like BF2 block global hotkeys because they're lame.

because what is lame? The global hotkeys or the developers behind BF2?.. biggrin.gif
sorry for being very offtopic, but it's summer and this is my last week at work..

But i would also just recommend using globals in the case that martyrpuppet is just using xfire..

it's due to DirectInput (part of DirectX) which causes this and not directly the BF2's developers (most DirectX based games block the hotkeys as well so it's just one of those things to have to put up with)

Alternatives to global hotkeys include the command-line options.

foobar2000.exe /command:Play (or something similar) should work. You can try foobar2000 /? for the details.

Back when I used to play games, the lack of global hotkeys annoyed me, so I wrote a little utility to help.
It can be found here: http://daviddl.orcon.net.nz/GameTamer.zip
It's been sitting on that server for a couple of years now and the source has vanished.

Click Shortcuts, Add Shortcut, enter something like FB2k | &play ( the letter after the & becauses the shortcut key, in this case Ctrl+Alt+P).

In settings, don't set the poll frequency too low, or the shortcut will be executed multiple times (I just discovered this. It also revealed a bug in foobar2000 0.9.3: Executing /command:pause too quickly causes it to crash)

No crash here. Perhaps you could post a proper report in a separate thread, if you can find more details about this.
