Just got that encoder and i wonder if it`s the right one, the one without that major bug everyone was talking about some times ago....

I get 33 to 40X encoding with this encoder, i found that pretty awesome (vrb 100) but there's a method to fix the time ?

if i'm not completely misled, 1.02 is the version with the stereo collapse bug. i don't think, there is a commandline version of fastenc without this bug at all (?).
DigitalDictator
Actually, I'm pretty sure that's the non buggy version. You can find it in the latest MusicMatch Jukebox and in EasyMP3. Apparently it's not widely tested (by people at HA anyway) but I think it provides some really good mp3s :-) even though I'm sure Lame's got the upper hand.

But how we fix the dam time/bitrate display bug ? blink.gif (at least in winamp)

There is no command-line version of fastenc I've tested which is free of the stereo collapse bug. To test for it, encode and listen to:

I don't know about EasyMP3, but up-to-date versions of MusicMatch Jukebox contain the non-buggy version, yes.

"We" have gained enough experience with FastEnc in the r3mix days. Since FastEnc hasn't been worked on at all since then, the results we got at that time still hold true.

That depends on the listener. Most people here will agree that LAME is clearly superior to FastEnc above 128kbps; however, which of the two encoders you prefer at 128kbps is a matter of "taste". I remember that on newkid.wav, ff123 clearly preferred Fastenc, while I thought it sounded absolutely horrible because of high-frequency ringing. The LAME (--alt-preset cbr 128) version sounded OK to me, but ff123 complained about horrible flanging.

Commandline fastencc version 1.02 is buggy. This is what I wrote some time ago:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....3670#entry36246

Notice that I'm only talking about the commandline fastencc. The latest fastenc codec for example in CEP 2pro seems to be "ok".

So... those devious rats... they post the buggy version on the internet for free download...?

[Link to illegal software removed..]

That is sooo uncool. Anyways, thanx for the info.

Didn't the problem occur with one particular setting?

Highest quality, or something like that. rolleyes.gif

AFAIK, it's not FhG who's offering that buggy version - it's an illegal compile built from sourcecode which "escaped" from an FhG employee. smile.gif

I learnt this from Roberto: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....=ST&f=15&t=3670
JohnV
Yeah.. actually the link should be cencored because:
1. it's bad quality encoder.
2. it's illegal.

And in that specific order. wink.gif

Geeez... sorry 'bout that! I actually thought (of course) that Fraunhofer had made the command line encoder publically available. Odd that they haven't shut down that homepage. Maybe they don't even bother since it's a buggy version..? But that version will still give FastEnc a bad rep...

Is there anything useful in that encoder that can be incorporated into Lame? Maybe that would be illegal too..!?

Umm, how would you want to do that, if the source isn't available publicly? smile.gif
