That depends on the listener. Most people here will agree that LAME is clearly superior to FastEnc above 128kbps; however, which of the two encoders you prefer at 128kbps is a matter of "taste". I remember that on newkid.wav, ff123 clearly preferred Fastenc, while I thought it sounded absolutely horrible because of high-frequency ringing. The LAME (--alt-preset cbr 128) version sounded OK to me, but ff123 complained about horrible flanging.
