hi
i encode my cd's into FLAC using EAC
then i re-encode these FLAC files to mp3 using foobar200 and LAME 3.97b2
when i import the mp3's into itunes all the tag info gets displayed with a little square at the end of each line
as in the artist name, song title, album, everything in the iTunes song browsing window has a little square character at the end of it

i don't have a clue what's causing this

thanks in advance!

ps. FLAC has tags right?

I believe the cause is that Foobar 0.9x writes id3v2.4 tags, however iTunes craps itself on Foobar tagged mp3s, giving you that lovely [] at the end of tags (even though it supposedly supports v2.4). They're more annoying than anything, the []s don't actually show up on you iPod. I did however find that if you have artist and artist[] in iTunes, you'll get two instances of that artist on you iPod!

My workaround, though i've only used it a few times, is to use the right-click > Convert id3 tags... in iTunes and convert to v2.3 tags. []s disappear. I don't use itunes for anything other than d/ling podcasts and transfering music to my iPod.

this is bizarre, i've found that clicking 'convert id3 tags' and then clicking OK or NEXT makes them go away too

as in i didn't change the tag version

Cool, next time I'll have to try that instead.
