What's the best sounding program for adjusting the volume level between MP3 songs? I've tried MP3 Gain, it took all the dynamics out of the mp3 and there wasn't much to start with (all my mp3's are at 320k, CBR). Replay Gain said there is supposed to be a setting to choose between the default Radio setting and the Audiophile setting, but I couldn't find it in the Replay Gain pluggin I downloaded for Winamp. Any other programs out there?

MP3Gain changes the volume of the entire file by a constant amount. Unless you are using an extreme amount of attenuation or causing clipping, it does not affect the dynamics.

You are quite right, I was trying to set everything to 95 db and the clipping column said yes to most of the songs. Thanks for the reply. 89db just sounded too low! rolleyes.gif smile.gif

Once you get all your music replay-gained it won't sound 'too low' anymore because you will just turn up the volume a bit to compensate.

For winamp, use "in_mpg123.dll" (or is it "in_!mpg123.dll" i forget), and enable replay gain there (you can find it quickly with a search). Don't forget to remove 'mp3' from in_mp3's extention list wink.gif

What bothers me is that the line out on my iPod was speced 6dB lower than the standard. mad.gif

I've tried to compromise by setting a target volume of 92dB but this is still way too quiet compared to my CD player, especially when playing a newer or newly-remastered release.

yeah I noticed this as well in my car. I just turm the volume up and then wathc it whe I switch sourced from aux to cd or tuner.

I may adda small lines tage amp between the out pit and inputs to the creeiver but then I add a amplifier stage and might induce noise as wella s meka things more complicated than needed.

Hi. I'm wondering what ya'll recommend when using mp3 gain: 89db, 92db? How do I know if clipping will be noticeable on my iPod? I understand iTunes and iPod can handle some clipping with no problem.

When I set it to 89, very few of the tracks show the red Y for clipping that will occur. The more goes up considerably when I change it to 92--to about a 1/4 of the tracks. But the good thing is that even at 92db, it's going to turn the volume down on a lot of tracks and stop the clipping on those.

Thanks for any comments.
