Hi all,

unlike my colleague below, I have just opposite proble. I would like to join some tracks losslessly (CD ripped into individual tracks) and if possible, without glitches, into one or more larger tracks. I do not like cut tracks which link each other, and not being able listening to them using some gapless player, but f.i. from the disc in the car. Is this ever possible?

Thanks for help.

Are they VBR? That makes things much more difficult, but still possible.

If they are CBR and have the same bitrate, mp3directcut has a fairly easy joiner. Open the mp3 you want to go second, and then use "file -> append all/selection to..." and choose the mp3 that you want to have first. I find it helps to remove all tags from both files before using it.

Klyith,

many thanks, I have had mp3directcut, but in fact did not figure out, how to do this simple operation. Yeah, it works, but I have not checked whether there are glitches in the joints. How about VBR?

note: joining can not be totally lossless because mp3 uses mdct, which is an overlapping transform.

Why not use Omion's nice little MP3packer app to losslessly convert the VBR file to CBR and then use Klyith's technique above wink.gif

So there is no tool that can join vbr mp3's directly?

No, unless you put them together in a container. Something like Matroska can append the two mp3s back to back... Downside is loss of compatibility with many software players and all portables; I also don't know if the join is gapless.

I don't know if the problem is that it's technically impossible to join VBR mp3s or that there just isn't a tool that will do it. It may just be that mp3directcut is old and has trouble working with vbr files.

@Klyith: I know this is an old thread but looking for a way to join I bumped into this and I cannot see an option in MP3directcut for "append" anywhere. Am I missing something? Using latest version.
Cheers.
