Full Version: Flac to MP3 converter with CDDB support?

I look everywhere but it seems to me that there aren't any FLAC to MP3 capable converter with the CDDB support.

Let me explain - I have a number of albums archived in FLAC without any tags. If I want to play them on my MP3 player I have to convert songs to MP3. No problem there except that there aren't any tags created automatically. The only way I know of is to convert FLAC with CUE to CD image, to mount it and to use some audio ripper to read the image, to connect to CDDB and then to convert files to MP3 with appropriate tags. It's either this tedious method or manually editing all the MP3 tags (even more tedious).

So, what I would like to know is if there are any programs that could appropriately connect and get CDDB information based solely on the FLAC + CUE info and then use that info to fill appropirate ID3 tags when converting to MP3? huh.gif

TIA

Are you opposed to converting from flac to mp3 first and then using a program to tag the mp3s that has freedb lookup?

I'm not opossed to anything, it's just that I'm not aware of any programs that are able to tag MP3 based on the FreeDB entries? huh.gif

Yup. I know. I use Foobar2000 as a player and I do use it convert between formats including FLAC->MP3 but my problem is that I have untagged FLACs that I want to convert to tagged MP3s automatically (but leaving the original FLACs untagged) by the connection to FreeDB. If you know the correct Foobar procedure or plug-in please do share it with me. wink.gif

TagScanner has freedb lookup. Hopefully your files are named so they can be sorted by track number.

You need the freedb tagger, you can get it here: http://foosion.foobar2000.org/0.9/

Then this is how you do it: First you convert the FLACs to MP3s, then you load the MP3s into a playlist, select them and use the freeddb tagger for adding the metadata (right-click, "Tagging->Get Tags From freedb").

Thx for the advice. That app is certainly worth looking into. wink.gif

Thx for the description of the procedure. It works and in this way I can easily use my favorite player. wink.gif
