Which is the best portable audio cd player in the market? I want the best possible audio quality. In my opinion, skip protection is secondary to absolute audio quality. Should I go for the Sony D-NE 920 or some Panasonic portable? I shall be using my Senn PX100 headphones with it, so the quality of bundled phones doesn't matter.

I can recommend Panasonic SL-CT820 (or the new SL-CT830) CD/MP3 player as I'm very pleased with it's sound quality together with Panasonic RP-HJE70 canalphones.
