I just bought one of these drives Plextor Writer 230A and was configuring it to EAC and everything was going well until the overread capability test. It reported that it could not do either. I know that sometimes some of EAC's test can be faulty can anyone comment on this or has this drive and can tell me if it really can't overread into the lead in/lead out tracks?
I saw on the coaster factory user reported page that all the plextor drives even the really old one had this feature and just kind of assumed that this one could.

Thanks for any help!

This was debated quite recently here.

Anyhow, the PX-230 isn't a Plextor drive and it doesn't overread.

Which EAC tests do you think might be faulty?

Oh i'm sorry i tried to search the topic before i posted, my fault there. Fortunately i can still return the PX 230 i bought, what drives do you recommend? I'm looking into the PX-708A (i have an older computer -pentium III but cant afford a whole new computer sad.gif ) Do you know if this drive would be able to overread? or heard of any problems people have reported with it.

Thanks for your response

You're welcome. To me the lack of overreading is no big deal. This drive has quickly garnered a very good reputation as an excellent ripper. smile.gif

I have a PX-716A which I like very much and would expect similar performance from the PX-708A as well as the PX-712A. I guess the 755 and 760 are the latest and greatest drives from Plextor, though all of these are DVD burners, whereas the PX-230 is just a CD burner. The PleWriter Premium and Premium2 are the most recent CD burners that are true Plextors.

Here are a couple of links regarding the PX-230:

So is it safe to assume that all the plextor dvd burners/drives can read into the lead in/lead out tracks??

...and read HTOA.

Except this site says the PX-712A can only read into the lead-out.

In which case do you need to read into the lead-in when the read offset correction is positive?

To compensate for poorly pressed discs where the music is shifted such that the first track begins in the lead-in.

It isn't that common but I've seen it happen.

Is this possible to do with EAC at all (force drive to read from lead-in)?
greynol
Sure, just configure a negative read offset. EAC has a limitation of 20 frames but this can overcome by editing the registry.
