Hmm, you already confirmed this bug a few days ago, either in this thread or somewhere else... wink.gif  But I'll send you this file (466 KB) of course, shall I use your Audiocoding.com address again?

Hmm, can't really remember that smile.gif
It could be that some older version of the plugin used a flawed converter library that I hacked a little bit. The newest version I tried works fine.
That address should work fine.

It was in the AAC Tech board and I started the thread with this error message as the subject line.

So you still want to have this file or rather the brand new one I just converted with the in_m4.dll from Dec 13, 2002 where the same error occurs? wink.gif

Do you really use the MPEG-4 version of PsyTEL AACEnc to encode your test file? Maybe the problem results from different encoder versions...

Just send me one of the files that gives the error, please.

I'm using "PsyTEL® MPEG-4 AAC Encoder V2.15 (build Apr 9 2002)" with my own compile of the in_mp4 winamp plugin (not older than a few days I guess).

OK, the MP4 file from today is underway... and it's encoded with the same PsyTEL version you have.

Thanks. Tried it and it works fine here.
I send you my copy of the plugin so you can test that.

Damn... blink.gif OK, I will go to bed now and tell you what happened tomorrow.

[Edit]
Your new in_mp4.dll arrived and played fine with the new extreme2.mp4 file... headbang.gif And changing back to John33's compile from Dec 13, 2002 didn't even change that, so probably I was too tired yesterday and clicked on the wrong test file before posting. But I still have the older extreme.mp4 which shows this error, so I will send this one to you right now. Sorry for the confusion... and no need to worry for our "AAC extremists" anymore, if they use one of the latest in_mp4.dll for playing and converting their PsyTEL AAC files to MP4. dry.gif

Ok, that file doesn't work;
I think this has to do with what I explained before, some problem in the converter library with ADTS headers.
Mind the last post in the "AAC Tech" forum since these problems will become a lot worse in the future sad.gif

In the meantime I've found out that the older and not working file is a little bit bigger than the newer one: 476,608 bytes against 476,580 bytes. So some of these 28 bytes must be "evil", probably... wink.gif

Can you predict what might happen with all those MPEG-2 AAC files produced by PsyTEL or maybe just guess it? Will it make a difference if they were encoded with AACEnc or AACEnc_MPEG-4? Can they still be converted to MP4 either with in_mp4 or mp4creator and will they play afterwards? What has the U.N. say to this? Should we prepare for war or not? huh.gif

MPEG-2 AAC files are not affected. The files created by aacenc_mpeg4 are affected.
I guess changing them to MP4 is the best option. Keep a copy of the current mp4creator, because those guys will probably change to the new standard as well.

We are definately planning on asking some clarification from the MPEG. This looks a lot like a screwover action form a certain company.

OK, this already sounds less dramatic than before, because I don't think that there are many users of AACENC_MPEG4 with complete CD archives in AAC format who will miss these news and wonder why their files won't play with a newer in_mp4.dll. And judging from the reports here on the forum those people will probably appreciate the batch solution that Speek has built into his GUI. By the way, Ivan wrote that you can always extract a MPEG-2 AAC version from a MP4 file for those hardware players, is this also your opinion and how would that work, with in_m4.dll and/or mp4creator?

Hmm, why should "they" screw someone and whom? Maybe the MPEG-4 working group has never heard about PsyTEL's MPEG-4 version of AACEnc and just wants to make sure that all existing MPEG-2 AAC hardware players will be able to play AAC files in the future... What I can't understand is that Nero's decoder isn't able to play AAC files produced with PsyTEL. Can it at least play its own AAC Files created with the built-in option?

mp4creator has some kind of extract option I guess. Currently it creates MPEG-4 ADTS files with the old ADTS header, but this should get updated. With in_mp4 this is not possible.

Ahead has the pages up for the MP4 encoder plugin, but I cannot buy it yet sad.gif . I have run out of encodes with the demo version and I need more! I'll get it as soon as I can order it.

Here's the link: Nero MPEG4/AAC

DSP plugins work with both the plugins you mentioned. in_mp4 can also play AAC files and doesn't take as long to load the files. Problem is that it does not show the file length and does not allow seeking in the aac file.

Menno, I only use in_mp4 and it seems to seek mp4 files just fine, but not aac. If i get an aac file from a friend I use the plugin itself to convert the file to mp4, otherwise I go directly to mp4 using speeks, etc... and in_mp4 works like a charm.

Tii me a while to figure that winamp was doing that though... headbang.gif

If I could force in_faad to handle only aac, and in_mp4 to handle only mp4 files, that would be perfection, but oh well. Free works fer me.

superthanksmang, u rule Menno/Ivan!!!

Good idea smile.gif
Added to my todo list (which starts to get pretty long).
