Hi there all,

Searched the forum for the entire afternoon, and I couldn't find any conclusive answers.

I recently migrated from 0.83 to 0.93.1 recently, and I realised that for my songs tagged in Mandarin, 0.93.1 tends to write tags that cannot be read in Windows (XP Pro, Eng) or WMP10 - they just simply show up as '?'s. (see below):

0.83, 0.93.1, and iTunes 6.05 works perfectly in recognizing the tags though. 0.93.1 is configured to write both ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags for max. compatibility.

I can only solve this by using 0.83 to rewrite the tags in the files, but if I re-edit them with 0.93.1, everything goes back to square one. I suspect that this may be due to 0.93.1 writing tags in the ID3v2 2.4 format, so if it is, can I configure 0.93.1 to write the v2.4 tags properly?

Thanks a lot!
Egor

Hi. Apparently, WMP10 doesn't support ID3v2.4 Unicode tags, so it shows only ID3v1.
foobar2000 already writes v2.4 properly and nothing has to be configured. See also http://foobar2000.org/FAQ.html

Q: ID3v2 tags added/modified by foobar2000 are not read from application X or portable Y. What can I do?
A: foobar2000 writes ID3v2.4 tags encoded as UTF-8 (specified in late 2000). Please ask the vendor of X or Y to support this revision of the ID3v2 standard.

Q: foobar2000 writes question marks to my ID3v1 tags. What’s going on?
A: only ASCII characters are allowed in ID3v1. Any other characters are replaced by question marks on rewrites.

Hi,

Thanks for the speedy reply - I guess to solve this, I either gotta wait for ID3V2.4 to be implemented in WMP10, or to revert back to 0.83. sad.gif

Thanks anyway!

it will never be implemented in WMP10. maybe it has been implemented in WMP11, but i'm not sure since i've never tried the beta. i highly doubt that Microsoft would even do that though,

I don't beleive its implemented in WMP111 either. I get by when I need to use WMP to load songs onto my mp3 player by copying those files and then using MP3TAG to convert the tags to v2.3, however, I wouldn't use the v2.3 normally since i use some custom tags that seems to only be applicable in v2.4

It's not implemented in WMP 11 beta, I just checked.

Hmm, I wonder if something like this could be used to extend the ID3 tag support for MP3 files...
